Understanding Oud Grades: Royal, Premium, and Daily Explained

One of the most common questions we get is: “What’s the actual difference between your grades?” It’s a fair question — grading in the agarwood world can feel opaque if you’re new to it. Here’s a clear breakdown of what separates our three tiers: Royal Oud, Premium Oud, and Daily Oud.

It All Comes Down to Resin

The single biggest factor separating agarwood grades is resin density — how much aromatic resin has saturated the wood over time. More resin generally means a deeper, more complex, and longer-lasting scent. Less resin creates a lighter, more approachable character. Our three grades are built around this principle.

Royal Oud — Our Finest Grade

Royal Oud represents the deepest resin saturation we offer. This grade delivers a bold, layered scent profile — woody, animalic, leathery, and smoky notes combine into something genuinely complex. It’s the kind of scent that unfolds over time rather than presenting itself all at once, and it fills a space with a noticeably longer-lasting aroma than lighter grades. Royal Oud is best suited for those who already appreciate oud’s more intense, traditional character — think special occasions, gifting, or building a serious personal collection.

Premium Oud — Balance and Refinement

Premium Oud sits at a moderate resin density, giving it a well-rounded, versatile character. Expect a warm woody base with resinous amber undertones, soft musk, and a touch of sweetness in the dry-down. It’s complex enough to feel elevated, but balanced enough to burn regularly without overwhelming a room. If you want a taste of what makes oud special without committing to the intensity of Royal, this is the natural starting point.

Daily Oud — Accessible and Familiar

Daily Oud uses a lighter resin density, resulting in a cleaner, fresher scent profile — still genuinely woody and musky, but with a subtle green top note that keeps it light. This grade is designed for exactly what its name suggests: everyday burning, without needing to think too hard about “saving it for a special occasion.”

Which Grade Is Right for You?

If you’re new to oud, we generally recommend starting with Premium or Daily to get familiar with the scent family before working your way toward Royal. If you already know you love bold, traditional oud character, Royal Oud will likely be the most satisfying choice.
